We have recieved this experience from a user
Last year, I set out to find a promising dressage-bred foal. I visited several breeders, and finally found one I really liked. But—it was entered for auction, so I couldn’t buy it directly. I signed up for the auction, followed it online… and the foal I wanted was bid far above what I was willing to pay.
While browsing the other entries, one foal had caught my eye. Coincidentally, he was up next. So I placed a bid—and bought him. Sight unseen.
I spoke to the breeders a few days later, and we arranged everything for the handover. When he was ready to be weaned, he came home.
He’s a lovely horse—but he was a handful. The breeders were elderly and hadn’t really handled him. He was shy, cheeky, and strong. It took a lot of work just to make him manageable.
✨ The lesson?
When buying a foal, it's not just about pedigree, type, or movement. How it's been raised matters a lot. A well-handled foal is worth its weight in gold.
